Why isn't “Ich danke dir” “Ich danke dich?”
I believe that in the sentence
Ich danke 'du/dir/dich'
that:
ich = subject
danke = verb
du = direct object.
Wouldn't that mean that it would be "Ich danke dich"? I hear people say ...
