Does pronunciation of German words vary a lot across different places in Germany? @userunknown: Auch ich kenne vor allem Zugewanderte. Es gibt ja kaum noch echte Berliner — geschweige denn welche in zweiter oder gar dritter Generation. Aber ein paar kenne ich, und die, die Berlinerisch sprechen, sind alles Ossis. :) |

Does pronunciation of German words vary a lot across different places in Germany? @userunknown: Meiner Erfahrung nach hört man "ick" oder "icke" v.a. in (Rand- und) Ostberlin bzw. von (Rand- und) Ostberlinern. Berlinerisch war im Osten bis vor 20 Jahren noch relativ verbreitet. |

Wie erklären sich die verschiedenen Pluralformen für das Wort “Bank”? @userunknown: Die "hohe Kante" ist ein typische Merkmal von Truhen, in denen die Menschen ja früher all ihr Hab und Gut aufbewahrten. Geld hat man wohl eher dort abgelegt, als es in der Truhe unter die Sachen zu wühlen. |

“Ellbogen” vs. “Ellenbogen” - is there a difference in usage? There definitely is a standard German. It's what you find in books and in the newspaper. The problem, however, is that nobody speaks this. |

Was ist eine “Lätsch” auf Hochdeutsch? Das Vorstülpen der Unterlippe und Herabziehen der Mundwinkel bei (insbesondere) kleinen Kindern heißt (zumindest regional) auch "eine Schippe machen". Eine Dreijährige, die keinen zweiten Nachtisch bekommt und ein Gesicht kurz vorm Losweinen zieht, macht eine Schippe. |
