Are there other examples of postposed prepositions like in “Meiner Meinung nach, …”? Wenn es ein Wort dafür gibt, ... Danke! Ich hätte es wissen sollen. |

Gibt es im Deutschen Reste von anderen grammatischen Fällen als den vier üblichen? Ist auf dem Lande auch ein Lokativ? |

Polite alternatives to “Grüß Gott”? @Octavian : I did not know this one. Looks a lot like an archaic way of parting in french: "J'ai bien l'honneur (... de vous saluer, de vous servir)", which is not used anymore since the XIXth century. |

Do Latin loanwords conserve their gender? Mauer und murus seems to be cognates but I am not sure you could invoke direct import. |

What are the differences in punctuation between German and English? @Konrad : I agree and in this matter, there is certainly a lot to be left to the typographer for the whole design of the publication, and previous practice has been varied. Full spaces are often used in dialogues of theater plays for instance. Anyway we are not here to start a discussion on french typography, let's wait for French.SE :-) Have you committed yet? |

What are the differences in punctuation between German and English? @Konrad: in french the space between the marks and the first and last words are not whole spaces, but usually not breakable "espaces fines", and in most publishing houses only if there is a quotation between marks, not a simple emphasis of a phrase. If small not-breakable spaces are not available when you write (i.e. in a comment system), you should not use any spaces. |
