comment Use of ss or ß in a surname
I don't think "sz" was used much as the transcription of "ß", despite its name "eszet". I heard it was used for telegraphy in the German military (incidentally, by fellow student whose name began with "Voß"), but we others found it strange and funny. If I saw "sz" in a name I would probably guess it it is hungarian.

"a vowel before ß is spoken long" This is not true for names, or for texts predating the "Rechtschreibreform". For example, the "o" in "Voß" is spoken short.

comment How to translate “single-threaded” in a software documentation?
Das es um Probleme geht, ist bei "sichern" implizit klar. Wenn man das auch noch hinschreibt wird's hölzern.

comment Equivalent to “Deutschamerikaner” for Americans living in Germany?
I would use the same word (and write it with a hyphen). Note that the context of the Wikipedia article is the US.

comment Gibt's eine Regel ob man “ch” als “sch” oder “ch” (asperiert) ausspricht?
@Vogel612 Wo im Norden sagt man denn "isch"? Ich kenne das aus dem Saarland und Umgebung (Pfalz).

Für mein Informatiker-Gefühl ist das ein ganz normaler deutscher Begriff: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebenl%E4ufigkeit

comment What is the difference between “nicht größere” and “keine größeren”
Nicht must be at the end in the first sentence. For example: "Nein, meine Suppe ess' ich nicht!"

"Ich mag Katzen nicht." would also be correct.
