What does “Kollegen” mean exactly? In youth language, it is used like "Alter" or mate/pal as well. "Ey Kollege" is commonly used to get someone's attention. This might be regional though. In addition, in slang the plural is often changed to "Kollegas". This is by no means proper German, just some additional perspective. |

Speaking German with accent: a status symbol or a sign of being a foreigner? Vocabulary and correct use of grammar is more a status indicator than a "phonetic" accent. That way you can often differentiate recent Russian/Baltic immigrants from Russlanddeutsche... |

Does German language have “possessive apostrophe”? It is "permitted" for shops to put emphasis on the name. Still looks terrible, though. |

Do you always pronounce ST as SHT? And southern Germans might even say "beshten". It's part of the "Lautverschiebung", which is strongest in the south. |

Suitable translation of “you guys” or “you lot” I agree. I'd even say that the construction of "you lot/guys" is only a "workaround" to make up for the lost distinction of "thou/you". |

Do Latin loanwords conserve their gender? Thanks for pointing out the status one. One of my pet peeves. In addition the neutrum nominative plural ending on "a" is often confused with the feminine nominative singular. |

How can a native English speaker know when it is appropriate to use the polite (Sie) or the familiar (Du)? I think the avoidance phrase would rather be: "Gibt's dieses T-Shirt auch in Groesse XL?"... |

Gibt es im Deutschen Reste von anderen grammatischen Fällen als den vier üblichen? Es gibt auch den versteinerten Genitiv, wie z.B. "der Erlkoenig hat mir ein Leids getan". |
