What is an accurate translation for “I just wanted to run this by you…”? @Em1 While your suggestion has the correct meaning, it doesn't seem to me to catch the subtlety of the English phrase. Perhaps there is no good substitute for the construction ".. run ... by ..". |

Suggestions on preparing for the Zertifikat Deutsch (internationally accepted certificate in German) exam @TomAu That's the general idea, and is especially true for the letter writing component. For the other components a broad 'basic knowledge' will go far, allowing you to better understand the reading comprehension and what people are saying when trying to listen. When responding yourself, the examiners are more lenient, although it never hurts to only use constructions and words with which you are very comfortable. As an example, I added "-chen" to any word (where appropriate, with change in umlauts if required) of which the genus wasn't immediately clear to me. |

Englischer “Erklärbär”? As a word, I would suggest 'clarifiable'. Oder verstehe ich was falsch? |

How to say “Thank you for teaching me that word” in German? Perhaps I misunderstand something, but shouldn't it be 'dass' instead of 'das' in the first suggestion with 'beibringen'? |
