comment Was macht die deutsche Sprache so schwierig zu lernen? / Why is German so hard to learn?

comment Is “dümpeln” also used and understood in southern German speaking regions?
Well understood here, where the Danube river crosses the Bavaria/Baden-Württemberg border.

comment Is there a translation for “solitary work” without negative connotation (side meaning)?
Einzelgängerisch does have a pretty strong connotation though, typically negative. I would understand it as someone who actively avoids teamwork and defends his/her area of responsibility.

comment “Selbständig” or “Selbstständig”?
@bernd_k I take it easy - There are some useful changes, and in any case, I'll write in exactly the way I want. Language is evolving all the time and for many reasons. Ultimately it's always the people that decide whether or not they accept the changes.

comment deine Freundin oder deine Freundin?
"Meine Freundin Anja" can still mean "my girlfriend Anja", and "meine Freundin" can still mean "my friend" (if he has only 1 female friend or if it's obvious who is referred to) so that's not a rock-solid translation. Even "eine meiner Freundinnen" can mean that the author is poly-amorous ;) Only "feste Freundin" or some term of endearment ("mein Schatz Anja") or adjective ("meine liebe Anja") is definite. In other words: It's complicated!
