Since this is an introduction that spans the entirety of the Stack Exchange network, I would just like to say... I love them all!

Good short stories for learning German? I am ignoring its pleading eyes for weeks now. It is shooting daggers at me from the bedside as we speak. :( |

“Der gute Mann” vs. “Ein guter Mann” I just say, #dealwithit. |

Tieferes Verständnis von “jeder” und “alle” Actually, it is funny that the answer to this question leads me to further questions: in mathematics, we use 'for all x ...' as an expression. It actually means 'for every x' but it becomes ambiguous at some places. Thank God the difference exists here, because in mathematical symbols, as fas as I know, it doesn't. Help! |

Rules for capitalizing adjectives after “etwas, nichts…”? Ich wusste nicht über "anderes". Danke! |

Declination of adjectives after einigen I like this answer better. Since English and German are connected, I never stopped to look why there was an 'of' between 'some' and 'friends'. |

Where to place “sich” in an elaborate sentence? I always put sich after the verb i.e. in the third place. The verb then goes wherever it wants to go according to the placement of clause in the sentence. This makes it easy for me to realize early on whether the verb is reflexive or not. |

Are “zu-” and “ein-” special prefixes widely used to form new verbs? @Em1 I love 'ver-' as a prefix. If anything, it seems to be the most consistent prefix ever used except maybe 'un-' in the sense that I can mostly understand the meaning conveyed as well as the fact that I can guess words which turn out to be quite similar to real words. |

Understanding usage of Wechsel Dative Prepositions @Emanuel I didn't understand that example at all. Why is 'Mai' not in dative? How can time be a direction, even in figurative sense? And if there is a possibility of giving an answer to 'wann' in accusative, why make the rule in the first place? And could you please give me the traslation of the "tanzen" sentence; I am not able to wrap my mind around this concept. |

What percentage of German masculine nouns are weak nouns? Assuming that 1/3 of all these nouns are masculine (there must be more than that; it has the highest number of nouns in German, no?) there is a weak noun for every other 14 'normal' masculine nouns. Doesn't that make it quite difficult for learners to gobble up all of them?! |

What is the difference between “scheinbar” and “anscheinend”? No. As an extreme proponent of descriptive grammar, I agree with @RegDwight. If thousands upon thousands of people are doing it "wrong", then we are just seeing a language growing. Meanings change over time; this is one example. Rather, it should be noted that there are multiple meanings to the same word in current usage. |

Modal verbs: preterite or perfect? Hmm, so it was a faulty observation. Thanks for the input! |

Modal verbs: preterite or perfect? I am not a native speaker by any means - I am just a beginner - but I have hardly seen perfect modal verbs in real world. That might be my limited experience there, but I noticed it independently a few days back. |

Can I start to make rudimentary sentences in German after a week worth of exposure to German? Just to complete the circle, it was impossible. I thought I spoke German. But it mostly a pidgin kind of language limited to me only. I myself cannot understand the sentences I wrote back then. :D |

Was genau ist ein Strom (Gewässer)? @Wrzlprmft Ja, ich sehe ich jetzt. Ich schwöre aber, dass es war nicht da wann ich diese Frage gestellt hatte. Deswegen scheint es alle ziemlich sinnlos. :D |

Explanation of the prefix “er” I was always told that I should always and always try to connect the er- verb with the meaning of root verb. The er- one would be specific as well as somehow more fancy. It works. When I am in doubt, I always see where the focus is and depending on it use the verb. It works, I would say, 60% of the time? Though the remaining time I am not even sure the word exists or not. :D |

How rude is “Quatsch!”? Hmm. I used to watch a German show and they used to say "Quatsch" at least twice every episode. |
