I'm having a bit of a trouble figuring out the difference between these two phrases:

  1. Die offizielle Sprache ist ...
  2. Die offiziellen Sprachen sind ...
  3. Die offizielle Sprachen sind ...

Originally I wrote the third sentence but my german friend pointed our that the second one is correct but how can that be? The third sentence is plural and nominative and has the adjective ending of -e but in the second sentence has the adjective ending pog -en.
