Is there a rule for determining the gender of English loan nouns like "Secondhandshop"? I read here that the gender will usually be that of the German translation, but this is not so helpful when there are many different translations of the word in German which don't all have the same gender. In the case of "Secondhandshop" the translation of "shop" would either be der Laden or das Geschäft, so I can only conclude that the gender is likely to be either masculine or neuter. Do I just have to learn the gender of every anglicism individually?
