"to “to consider something/someone as something/someone"someone” in German

I've learnedI am trying to find a German expression for 3 months nowto consider st/sb as st/sb, e.g., as in:

I consider him as my best friend.

I'veI’ve looked up some English-GermanEnglish–German dictionaries for the expression "to consider st/sb as st/sb in German, but the results that I'veI’ve found were not satisfying. For example, in Collinsdictionary.com, I found an expression "jdn/etw für etw halten"as a translation jdn/etw für etw halten and as an example for it "ich habe das Bild für ein Original gehalten".:

Ich habe das Bild für ein Original gehalten.

However it means "I thought the picture was an original", this rather means I thought than "I consider/I consider or regard"I regard, i.e.:

I thought the picture was an original.

It would be more convenient if I use German-German dictionaries because they give very detailed explanations. However my level is too low to use them. So I want to ask here that what is itsthe German equivalent of the English expression "to consider something/someone as something/someone" ?

Thank you very much.to consider something/someone as something/someone?
